"ElkNet, What's Wrong
With Your Service?"

Why Can't I Connect? Why Do I Get Disconnected? Why Are Things So Slow?

In most cases, nothing. When the occasional problem arises on the ElkNet end, all customers will have the same difficulties and the ElkNet staff will know of the trouble in minutes due to an extensive monitoring/alarm system which will send out emergency pages 24 hours a day. (And, of course, by the increase in calls to the help desk.)

These pages have been designed to help customers understand some common misconceptions concerning internet service and to provide them with tips to help them troubleshoot problems related to their connection. Many times an assumption is made that there are problems on the ElkNet end of the connection because the customer has seen no changes on their end, and the customer takes no action hoping that things will "clear up" soon.

Below is a list of questions customers often asked based on these misconceptions. You can check up on some questions you may have had and get some troubleshooting tips to help remedy the problem. Or, go to the printer friendly version to print the document in its entirety.
